Jensen is one of the real pros in IT today going far beyond his extensive technical abilities and knowledge of contemporary programming. Jensen can actually COMMUNICATE clearly, effectively and thoroughly. His communication skills are outstanding and this combination of technical expertise and communication skills makes him unique in the modern IT world where it seems that all tutorials, demos and "white papers" are written for an audience with a nearly zero attention span. True, you have to stay awake and pay attention when you read Jensen's writing, but the rewards for your efforts are far greater than the effort it takes to gain them. We need more like Cary Jensen in IT; I wish we could clone him.

A good revision to an already very useful book. Happily, Jensen does not again use the BDE (which I felt was a mistake in the earlier volume, despite his reasoning.) The discussion of the ClientDataset benefits, as well, from the addition of FireDAC to the mix. They are similar, but different, and comparing them helps to illuminate the benefits of both.

I left Delphi and C++ Builder long ago, then when I had to program an application resulted that BDE was no longer supported, and the documentation and examples I found at that time for dbExpress were so basic and did not solved master details problems I had. I bough this book to address all my doubts, and certainly I think it has helped me a lot.This book does not only shows facts as in the product documentation, it relates the concepts and explain them in detail.Great book, thank you to Cary Jensen

Very informative and deep coverage of ClientDataSets. Everything from searching, filtering, and caching to saving the data locally is covered in this book. In this new world of mobile usage where a connection to the datasource is not always guaranteed, saving the change cache locally, then persisting to the remote database when connected is something that is handled by default by the ClientDataSet. Incredible and relevant technology for today even though it was created and first released in the mid-90's. This book explains ClientDataSets in an easy-to-read format, but it also has really good details that will be of good use to developers who have been using the technology for years. Thanks Cary for the insight and clarity into an amazing technology.

This book attempts a comprehensive look at ClientDataSets, but misses the mark for beginners. The first mistake the author makes is one many, many Delphi books make. The problem can be summarized as follows: "BDE is dead and no one in their right mind would do database development work today using the unsupported dead BDE, but because Delphi has sample BDE databases, I'll use BDE examples throughout."This foolish idea of using a dead-end database structure sounds like a good idea when you hear the author describe it, but it doesn't translate to the new user. An experienced Delphi database developer would likely make the easy leap between how it is done with BDE as opposed to say dbExpress, but the beginner will not. This leaves the beginner lost right out of the gate. Trying to teach myself Delphi database programming, I wasted 20 hours tinkering just to figure out one simple mistake I was making while trying to recreate the books examples using mySQL and dbExpress. Granted the book cannot cover every database back-end and access method available, but starting with any of the non-dead options translates much easier to the other modern options than BDE. The author should have picked ADO, dbExpress, or even Interbase and used a real RDBMS back-end.The second mistake the author makes is relying too heavily on the downloadable code examples rather than placing code examples directly in the book. This not only wastes a great deal of time flipping back and forth, but the downloaded code often doesn't show enough to be useful. Practical examples would do things every database programmer would do in a basic database app. Instead many of the downloaded code examples are simply 4 components strung together using their properties in an empty shell application. Yes the app displays data, but does nothing useful. Complete examples showing how to add, delete, edit, search for, lock, unlock, and avoid collisions with other users using more than dbGrid and a navigation bar would be extremely helpful. As it is, you'd think every database app revolves around dumping unformatted data into a dbGrid and having the end user hack away at it like a glorified spreadsheet.Again, for the advanced developer needing to fill in a few missing pieces about how ClientDataSets work, I'm sure this book is fine. For the beginner, the book is a nightmare until you've wasted hundreds of hours experimenting your way past basic problems.For the beginner, I'd rate this book 1.5 stars. For the more experienced developers three stars, and for those already doing database work but just needing a few gaps filled in, perhaps a bit higher.

It would be all too easy to overlook the value in the TClientDataSet. This book takes the reader through it in considerable detail. My only complaints are two: the decision to use the BDE, while understandable, was a poor one, and second, the book would benefit from careful proof reading and editing.

I bought this book after buying Delphi XE4 and finding very little detailed information on ClientDataSets on the web. It is a comprehensive book and covers many topics in a clear and concise manner. It helped me to get started with my one-to-many application and gave me ideas about how to structure future projects. It also caused me think "that's an great idea!". The book is obviously very specific (by the nature of its title), but if this is the area you need to get stuck into, you simply cannot do without this book.

This is a great book on ClientDataSets. Even with FireDac more-or-less replacing ClientDataSets, there are enough similarities that this is a good foundation with which to start your FireDac knowledgebase.

This book follows Lucy as her mother gives her a little red wagon...and a chore to get vegetables from the market with it before she can play with it. Lucy's imagination takes hold along her trip, turning the wagon into a truck, a covered wagon, a boat and more.This book is a cute story with gorgeous illustrations. Unfortunately (or fortunately if you like to encourage discussion on each page) the words on each page simply tell the story of Lucy taking her wagon to market but do not reference what vehicle her wagon has transformed into.Ultimately I enjoyed the book and believe, based on the amount of words on the page (appr. 1 short sentence) and need to discuss the illustrations, that it would be best for typical 1.5-2+ years old.

Very cute book. Its all about the awesome imagination of Lucy the fox. It does not have very many words, but the illustrations are cute and it promotes lots of language and learning because I am constantly explaining Lucy's adventure slightly differently due to all actions of Lucy and her furry friends. I really like this book and so does my 2 year old boy.

Bought this book along with a little red wagon for a baby shower gift. Parents-to-be LOVED IT!

My daughter loves this book. The writing is simple and tells a story while the illustrations allow the child to use their imagination and make up their own version of the story. I'd definitely recommend this book to parents and teachers. Provides perfect opportunity for verbal communication.

I've read all three of the books associated with the Queensland Police. I thought the first book and this last book told the whole sordid story quite well. I was a visitor to Brisbane around that time in the mid 80's visiting a friend who was working there at the time. I don't know that he was aware of the extent of the corruption. One thing I always enjoy with history is pictures and there were none. The newspapers must have had hundreds of them.

An interesting tale about a sordid part of Queensland's history. Not great literature but well-researched and a fascinating dip into the Bjelke-Petersen years. How JBP didn't get locked up is beyond me!

Matthew Condon presents a balanced account of a fascinating period in Queensland's history. I like the way he does not try to sensationalise the events.

This book brings together the events described in the first two books and then adds more to make a comprehensive picture of the history of Queensland curruption, policing and politics from the 50s onwards. I couldn't put it down. It's a wake up call to all of the destructive power of corruption. Brilliant.

This was a real eye-opener. I'm 55 now, so when all this was happening in QLD (I was only interested in girls, music and my mates) it was just some "talking heads" on the news. Reading it now... to understand how bad things were... was just jaw-dropping. A great read!

An easy to read history of the Fitzgerald inquiry exposing political and police corruption in Queensland .

One of the best books I've read. Thoroughly enjoyed the trilogy.

Great book! The examples are easy to follow and it is fairly comprehensive. It goes over the basics of html, css and javascript and how to use them. Great for getting into web programming.

I love how well this book is written and organized, from the chapter structure down to page layout. Dr. Dean’s writing is creative and engaging. Student resources are available online for accessing source code – a great time saver. And I appreciate how the exercises at the end of each chapter give hints as to which section is most relevant to the solution. In the world of textbooks, I find this one most refreshing.

"Little Felted Dogs: Easy Projects for Making Adorable Pups" by Soari Yamazaki is an adorable little book that shows readers how to create their own little felted dogs!It features 24 different types of dogs to felt, and a short introduction to Needle Felting Basics which includes instructions such as:"What is Needle Felting?""Basic Materials and Tools""Felting Toolbox""Basic TechniquesThe author explains what type of needle is needed and why it's important to get the right kind. She also gets into the different types of Wool and what types work best for each project.The different projects range in difficulty. For example, the Golden Retriever puppies appear to be easier than the Pug Puppy. For each felted dog, there is a recipe for items needed. It lists the color of wool you will need for the body, ears and tail, as well as the colors you will need for the body. It also mentions any other supplies you might need such as glass eyes or pipe cleaners.The instructions are pretty detailed, explaining how to construct the dog, what sizes to aim for, and sometimes listing small notes which give helpful tips on how to make the felted dog look more like an actual dog.All in all, I thought this was a fantastic book for the price. It's hardcover makes it durable and easy to work with when creating a project, and it includes plenty of projects to stay busy for awhile! This book would be excellent for tweens on up to adults. I think it will be a fun project that my daughter and I can do together. Another aspect of this book that I really enjoyed was the fact that you don't need to buy a ton of supplies to get started. This book is SO cute. I've done other needle felting projects in the past, including a three-dimensional meerkat, panda, and penguin. Let me begin by admitting that needle felting is one of my least favorite crafts. There are so many hours that go into needle felting, that most people who look at your finished craft won't even begin to realize. In fact, probably the biggest surprise of this book, for me, is how large the dogs are (larger than any needle felted critters I've made before). Larger equals more work. That being said, once you're done you'll really have something to be proud of.This book is cute even for the adorable photos of the author's creations, but I bet you're wondering more about the instructions, right? If so, they're pretty good. It's kind of hard to give instructions on how to needle felt, because it's almost like making something out of clay in that you can't give exact instructions as you can with a crocheting, knitting, or sewing project, or something similar. How the critter turns out is very dependent on the skills of the crafter.However, I do think that it could have been made easier for beginners by doing a couple of things:(1) Photos. As I made a dog, I kept wishing I could see it from lots of different angles. I ended up doing a web image search to see more about how a Westie's hair looks, for example. It would have been good to see photos not only of Yamazaki's dog creations from many angles, but also the real-life dogs they are based on. This issue is easily resolved just by going on a search engine, but it would be nice if the book contained more photos.(2) Life-sized charts. Not life-sized of real dogs! :) But of the projects. There are charts in the book, but they're not sized at 100%. I think that if they were, this would be a huge help for beginners, as they could place their felted shapes directly on the book in order to make sure they're getting the dimensions exact.I'm the type of person who thinks that if you're going to be a good needle felter, all you need are photos of what you're trying to make. That being said, this books has really cute ideas that even an experienced needle felter might not think of (such as how the toy poodle's coat is achieved). And it's cute just to look through, and see the cute creations.Tip: If you just need a tiny bit of wool, you can use 100% wool yarn. I did this for the nose and ears' interiors. Begin by cutting a length of yarn and pulling the ply apart, then fluffing it until it separates. You can then use it as you do the felting wool.I've included some pics of the westie I made. I used what I had on hand (100% natural wool without other shades removed), so he kind of looks like he's in need of a bath.

Could have used more step by step photos for each dog breed, not just general body shaping. This is "just ok" for very beginners.

I love needle felting and this book is a must have for fiber artists. The book has easy to follow instructions with pictures of many different breeds of dogs you can create with needle felting.While the book is small in size it's a treasure trove of knowledge for beginners or advanced artists.If you enjoy felting small items, specifically dogs you will love this book!

I'm pleasantly surprised with this book! I was thinking it was only patterns for the dogs shown on the cover but there are paterns for 24 breeds! There are lots of photos. I haven't made anything (just got it today) but I've read through and feel prepared.

I like this book, and will continue to use it. I needed more help with shaping of the head. I floundered a little with lack of direction. I needed to know more about how "to shape" the head. How does one arrive at that shape?The basic dog shapes are cute.

My wonderful two dogs gave me this book for my birthday, and each night before bed, my husband and I read a couple chapters to give us something special to put in our minds before we fell asleep. We were disappointed when the book was over!I cannot praise this book enough! The stories are sweet without being sappy, fun without being contrived. But what really makes this book special are the amazing photographs of the animal friends together. They are sharp, beautiful, and so appealing that I can stare at them for a very long time.I also appreciate that the stories are generally about animals who became friends by their own choice rather than being made to become friends by humans who forced them to mix. Even when introduced by humans, usually because they were rescued as babies and needed another young friend to learn to socialize, they continued to choose to remain friends when offered the chance to move on in life.All the stories are amazing, so it's hard to select ones to highlight here, but I'll describe four of my favorites. I love the story of the African tortoise who decided that the perfect place for himself was at the bottom of the pile of ten great Dane puppies and who even ran with them (amazingly even outpacing some!), played with them, and ate the puppy mush with them!There are also two particularly wonderful stories of animals who saved the life of others of another breed. A litter of kittens were at risk of dying because they wouldn't take a bottle after being bereft of their mother. So the female dog of the house noticed them and picked them up one by one by the nape of the neck in the same way she had done with her own puppies a year and a half earlier, carrying them to her own dog bed. And even though she hadn't had puppies in so long, her maternal instincts and the kittens' need inspired her to lactate, producing milk to feed the babies! How special!The other story that I found so inspiring was the love between a donkey and a sheep. After they had been close for a while, a pit bull attacked the sheep, whom the owner saw dragging the dog as it hung onto the sheep's neck. She tried with no success to beat the dog with a pipe when she heard a scream of rage, and the donkey ran into the fray with no hesitation about its own safety and attacked the pit bull. The three animals struggled for quite some time, but the donkey ultimately saved the life of its sheep friend and remained by the side of the sheep as it spent a year recuperating, the most loyal of friends. This story was so special that it brought tears to my eyes!And to conclude with a whole lot of fun, if for nothing else, you ought to read this book just to learn about the swan who fell deeply in love with a plastic swan boat! They even put the two together in the zoo to weather the winter together, but when they tried to introduce the swan (with its boat of course!) to other swans, yet another swan was smitten by the boat!This book was so great that I have now ordered the author's first book, and I also bought a copy of this book to send to my favorite animal-loving family for them to enjoy together, which I understand they are doing.My dogs showed very good taste in selecting an appropriate birthday present for me! Thank you, Liberty and Teddy Bear, for many evenings of joy with this book!

When my mom became bed bound and very ill, I looked for something that we could do together that would be something uplifting to her and something we could share together. I had bought a copy of this book because I love animals and enjoy the stories and enjoyed the beautiful photography. What I love about the book is that most of the stories are with a happy ending ( a few of the animals have moved on or passed away) and they are short, most being between 2-4 pages or so. It was perfect for me to read between 1-3 stories a visit and brought a smile to my mom's face. She had always loved to read and we always had animals, so this seemed a perfect fit. She already told me early on that when we finish this book she hopes that I can bring another because she is enjoying them so much. I find that they are the perfect length and there is not an intricate plot to keep in her head or something that we have to start and stop. The stories are heartwarming and we've learned a lot about the different animals as we have read. I will be purchasing the Unlikely Friendships when I finish this one most likely because we are enjoying this so much. I would highly recommend to children, older kids, older adults or anyone who loves animals. It is an especially nice book to read to someone who is small, ill or older that can't read for themselves. It is upbeat and just plain makes you feel good!

I enjoyed this book and read it quickly. I do recommend it for people who love animals. It proves that people can learn a lot from animals if we don't think of them as a lesser creation.The only really bad thing was that there were 2 or 3 chapters in which several paragraphs of each chapter were repeated word-for-word within the chapter. It was annoying. Only one chapter had a repeat set of paragraphs near the end, the chapter ended, and it seemed like it was incomplete.

Loved all of this except snake and dog picture. Don't know why dog would allow such a thing and does anyone think this is going to end well. All other pictures and articles illustrate why people shouldn't say in a derogatory manner that some people act like animals. If we acted more like most animals world would probably be a nicer place!

This book has something for everyone who loves animals. It is heartwarming, sweet, sometimes sad. It tells stories of orphaned or lonely animals who find love and their place in our tough world. The stories are brief, to the point, and warm the heart.

This book is great. We originally bought it to use during traveling with my 5yr old son who loves animals. It has some cool stories that are very short, about 2-3 pages each describing an unlikely bond between different kinds of animals. It includes pictures of each one and the stories are written simply enough to engage kids. My son enjoys having us read it to him and even reads some of it himself.

Really fun filled with a variety of heartwarming stories with plenty of different animals.

This is such a great read for the young right through the ages. It’s full of many lessons of love and kindness between animals that should be arch enemies. I explained to my grandchildren that it’s much the same in the human world, you can apply the same lessons, and looks for good in all individuals!
