I bought this as a reference while working as a field engineer for offshore support vessels. It gives you a good understanding of ship design and how vessels and their cargo will react based on wave amplitude, frequency, etc. Definitely a good read and the printed pages included were awesome.

Condition of the book was better than expected and the book itself is helpful for anyone looking into naval architecture and it is a simple read with easy to understand examples.

I am a Mechanical Engineer looking at ship design. This book looks to be an excellent resource beyond the fluid dynamics courses I had in college.

The information is through and I assune somewhat complete, if you plan to do a reconstruction of the aircraft carrier Nimitz or may older issues such as the Enterprise. However for anything under 250 feet, the book is virtually not applicable. I am currently refitting a 40' aftcabin crusier that is mahogany and oak. I was hoping to find information on newer reconstruction methods however, this book only deals in theory pertaining to large vessels and classical construction methodology.

With the possible exception of SNAME's "Principles of Naval Architecture," "Introduction to Naval Architecture" is the perfect introductory text for any naval architecture/marine engineering student. It includes brief but dense overviews of hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, ship structure, resistance, and propulsion. While there are more detailed texts for each of the above topics (again, SNAME's PNA does a good job as a reference, but not so much as a text, and Harvald's "Resistance and Propulsion of Ships" is THE text for that topic), it is the perfect source for equations, derivations, illustrations, graphs, and, most importantly, example problems. It's very hard to find any clear examples of NA problems in most texts - the examples in this book are worked through step by step, which makes comprehension a breeze. If you're studying or working in the field of naval architecture, this book is a necessary addition to your reference library.

"Introduction to Naval Architecture" provides a unique approach to ship design. Although this approach is quantitative and mathematically "intense", Gillmer also provides qualitative description within certain chapters. Ultimately, for the purposes of clarity and a definitive understanding of basic ship design, this work is best coupled with "Introduction to Naval Architecture" (E.C. Tupper), which provides a "descriptive" perspective. The Gillmer and Johnson referenece is highly recommended for those individuals who have prior knowledge of naval architecture, and a strong foundation in mathematics; otherwise, the aforementioned coupling of two references becomes necessary.Please note: This is my opinion as a high school Senior completing an independent research project within the field of naval architecture.

This is a great text for everyone. I think Zubaly's Applied Naval Architecture does a slightly better job in presenting the coefficients, but in every other respect, this text is superior. Zubaly and this text are weak in the details of seakeeping, but there are several other specific seakeeping texts, namely Dynamics of Marine Vehicles by Battacharia (I know I misspelled his name)

This book is great for starters in Naval Architecture and Engineering.I am a Naval Engineering Student and usually borrow this book from the library. But I liked it so much that I bought it for me to have one at home.There is introduction about stability, resistance of material, etc.

Lauren Blakely always gives me what I want to read, and she does it with a writing style that is an addictive and creative blend of warmth, wit and romance. The kinds of stories that make me smile and swoon and that leave me happy when I’m done.The friends-to-lovers trope is a top favorite of mine, near and dear to my heart, and Blakely put a fun spin on it here with a good-girl who wants to be naughty and her fireman best friend who she enlists to help her learn how. Arden and Gabe had a solid foundation of friendship to build on, and it was the comfort of this relationship that gave Arden the guts to approach Gabe with her plan. She had no idea that Gabe was harboring more than just friendly feelings for her, and in approaching him with her request, she gave him the opening he’d been hoping for. These two knew each other well, and their comfortable and easy-going relationship made for some witty, finish-each-other’s-sentences, back-and-forth bantering. Gabe’s Greek God good looks and charming personality didn’t escape Arden’s notice, but she had him pegged all wrong with some of the assumptions she’d made about him, and I enjoyed the heck out of him dispelling them.Blakely has a fantastic sense of humor that she uses liberally in her storytelling, and it was plentiful in this book. I pretty much perma-grinned my way through most of this story largely because of Arden’s utterly pragmatic approach to her proposal. The things she want to try and learn, and the specific ways she proposed that they tackle them, really showed the reader exactly why she needed these lusty lessons in first place. Sweet and oh-so-sexually-naïve Arden just never factored romance—or even attraction—into this scenario because she was totally oblivious to the possibility that sexy, ladies-man Gabe could be interested in her.One of the things I love most about Blakely’s novels is how richly she develops her heroes and the special insight into her male leads she gives her readers. Gabe’s inner dialogue was five-alarm-fire hot during his titillating torture sessions with Arden, and it was there that readers got a glimpse at his vulnerable side, too, when his thoughts moved to the what he really wanted with her. He also had an endearing side, something he showed repeatedly not only with Arden, but also in his relationships with his family and in his natural calling to help others. While Blakely doesn’t hesitate to put obstacles in her characters’ paths to happily-ever-after, she doesn’t draw it out with painful or angst-fueled plot devices to do it. Her stories have the right amount of conflict—just enough to keep things interesting—before she brings her characters to the other side of it together. Honestly, one of the reasons I read is to escape real-life, real-world drama, so I find Lauren’s approach in that aspect of her plots a much needed and very refreshing change of pace.Flirty, fiery and a whole lot of fun, Best Laid Plans was a feel-good story about what happens when friendship is set on fire. Arden and Gabe’s love story was full of heart, humor and heat, and I simply didn’t want to put it down. Five smooches from me for Lauren Blakely’s Best Laid Plans!

I love all Laurens books as they all have an important message in them. Gabe has a very important relationship with his grandfather (his Pops). Pops is battling memory issues but he always remembers the love of his life.Gabe is a hot fireman and he’s a Casanova with the ladies but he’s recently met Arden and his Casanova days are over.Arden East runs a book store and is smart. She was dumped by her boyfriend because he thought she was too “vanilla” and sweet. She becomes friends with Gabe and gets up her nerve to ask him to teach her and show her how to get and give in the bedroom department.Gabe and Arden have been friends for a year and both have kept their relationship in the friend zone even though they feel stronger emotions for each other. You have to read this story and see if friends can be more.

Lauren Blakely has once again written a 5 star book! This book has everything you could want, humor, romance, wonderful secondary characters and some really hot scenes! The way that Gabe and Arden became such great friends just made me chuckle. I’ll never be able to hike on trails again with a straight face. The way these two grew their friendship was wonderful to read about. I love how Gabe has such a great relationship with not only Arden but also his parents and his Pops. How can you not help but fall in love with this hot fireman. Arden is such a sweet and loving person that you just want to be her best friend. I love how she runs her bookstore and gives out wine advice to go along with the books. I also love the book clubs and the topics that they talked about. Still chuckling over that part. This book is so well written and will keep you entertained from start to finish.

Lauren Blakely writes the best nice guys.Arden is another favorite Blakely heroine. She's super cute and very relatable. Oh my gosh, I'm so jealous of her job - books and wine... hello heaven. She's inexperience in many aspects of her love life, but she's not naive or weak. I love her demeanor and her attitude even when she unsure.Gabe and Arden's friendship was my favorite thing. I was addicted to their flirting and hot back and forth interactions. This book was so deliciously sexy without being over the top.I can never get enough of Lauren Blakely's books. They make me so dang happy. Best Laid Plans is no different. I highly highly highly recommend picking it up.

Get ready to see how her "Best Laid Plans" to learn from her best friend how to be "naughty" changed her life forever and just might teach her how to let herself love again.

Knowing that this is non-fiction and the everyday suspense makes this a great read. Anyone contemplating a sailing adventure could use this as a how to or not to instruction guide. It read like a novel, it reminded me of Tristan Jones. I really enjoyed the chapter by chapter adventure and looked forward to the next leg of their journey. I usually have two books going at one time, Kindle and Audible. I focused on this book until I finished it. I find it amazing that ordinary people can have such adventures. A real life adventure over 7 years. This is not a trip to Cabo for a two week vacation. This is true life threatening, on the edge real adventure. I loved it.....

As a liveaboard and soon-to-be-cruiser, I read a lot of sailing books. “Escape from the Ordinary” is my favorite, by far.Julie Bradley writes with enjoyably telling detail about destinations we hope to visit (the Bahamas, the Galapagos, French Polynesia) and shares hard-earned wisdom regarding weathering storms and traversing the Panama Canal.I laughed and gasped as I raced through her pages, and will re-read this book again as we make similar tracks.Looking forward to reading her next book upon its release!

This book is so much fun to read, I had a hard time putting it down. Julie is a terrific writer. I loved learning about other places and cultures I never knew existed.I asked all local libraries in my area to order the book so others can enjoy.I can’t wait for her sequel: “Crossing Pirate Waters”.

I think what draws people to this book is the extreme admiration for these modern day pioneers. We admire those that would give up a comfortable life, sell everything and embark on an adventure into the unknown. Secretly, we wish we had it in us, but life, fear, jobs, money or whatever creates roadblocks. What courage they must have had to follow this dream! So many places, so many adventures, and lessons learned. All along, because of Julie's descriptions, you are thinking, "How would I have handled that?" "What would I have done?" I love that it's written from a woman's point of view; and from someone who had little sailing experience. I recommend it highly!

An excellent first book from author Julie Bradley. The book is equal parts adventure, social commentary, history lesson, the natural world, and moments of self-reflection. You definitely don’t have to be a sailor to enjoy the tales of life on and off “It’s Enough”. Julie uses some sailing and boating terminology but explains each one in landlubber terms for the uninitiated. While the descriptions of surviving bad storms may turn some people away from a sailing life the descriptions of the various islands and countries she and Glen visited will probably prompt a few to book a flight somewhere they’ve not heard of before. You’ll certainly have a list of places to go to and places, perhaps, to avoid. Enjoy.

Fascinating story that many of us have dreamed about but would have been better with more technical details about the boat, the planning and the decisions that had to be made. Written by the wife so it is mostly about the cool stuff and the things they saw and did. It probably would have been more interesting for me as a sailor if it had been written by the husband, Glen who seemed like a great and very competent guy. Minor flaw but there were a lot of typos also. Probably won't read the sequel.

Julie and Glen Bradley lived in our neighborhood for a few years. Although I know them and knew they sailed the ocean for 7 ½ years, I did not know of all their adventures. When I heard Julie wrote a book, I figured I’d be nice and order it. What an incredible surprise it was. I could not put the book down. It is well written and filled with adventures. Some so heart pounding I was afraid they would bring nightmares. I was happy to get to the parts where life was idyllic with beach walks and snorkeling, (spoiler alert) except for the shark encounter. Julie also did some great research on the places they went and stayed so the reader could learn the history and customs of those places. Buy this book, you will not be sorry you did and make sure you leave yourself time to read because you will want to see what happens next.

Julie's writing style is mesmerizing and educational for those of us that didn't make an opportunity to see the world on a sailboat. Jack could not put this book down and especially appreciated the history and description of each stop they explored. We both have great admiration for their teamwork, perseverance, and strength. Thank you for sharing your life details with us.

This book feeds my hunger for supernatural love stories. The world the author created was complex and interesting, without being confusing. The author clearly put thought into the universe she created. I liked the characters, too. Jordan and Duncan easily kept my interest. Their flaws make them all the more believable. I enjoyed the soul mates theme, a favorite of mine. The kids were adorable and the minor characters were varied, likable, and interesting. This book does a great job setting up the following stories of the series without detracting from the story. I am excited for the rest of the series! I wish book two was out, I cannot wait for Ryland's story. He's one of my favorite characters; I want him to find his own happy ending. I hope Bronx gets a book, too!

This was an absolutely delightful read with many characters that I just loved. The two main characters were fleshed out well, and the two children were totally adorable. I do feel like the story could have been condensed into fewer pages, and still could have packed a punch. However the plot was still enjoyable with many twists, turns, and surprises. I usually do not enjoy human hunters in my shifter stories (I prefer paranormal threats), but luckily it didn't take over the story too much. By the end of the book this pack had definitely grown in size, which is awesome. I just might have to read the next book in the series to see what happened to Blayze. :)

When reading Jordan's Pryde, I found that the author is very imaginative. She puts her words together carefully as if she is painting a portrait. Her words themselves draw the reader in and can easily pull them into the story as well. As a matter of fact as an ARC member I found myself unable to put the book down and was very sad when I got to the last page as the story came to its end. I hope to see a sequel soon and if this work of art is anything to go by then with the sequel we won't be disappointed. It is one that I know I will love and continue to love even as I get old and gray.Absolutely LOVED IT!!!

There were some editing errors in this book, not plentiful, but enough that it broke me out of the story several times. A couple of times I'm not entirely sure what it was supposed to say and I just skipped over it. This didn't have an impact on anything important to the story.Jordan was a very interesting character to me and I loved watching as he discovered the world that he rightfully belonged to. I'm also excited to read further into this world and see how all of the sects will come together to battle against Bergestrand and his war-mongering.

This is a new author for me and after having read this book, I know I want to discover other books by her.Jordan is totally adorable with his way of being unknown to his true self. Duncan is kind of blind to the fact he has a mate right under his nosetip. The twins...oh hell you are so going to love them to death. Im eager to read the next book in this series.

That was a fantastic book! It has all the shifters whether they were fighting or arguing or loving. It had everything that I liked in that book. And you, Giovanna, have made a reader for life! Thank you!

I seriously hope this is just the beginning the author had a great story between Duncan and Jordan. I loved it and the twins part was great as well. I really enjoyed the over all plot and seriously can’t wait for the next one.

The thing I liked about this book is you fall in love with how Duncan is in charge yet totally blind to Jordan being his mate. The ending I wanted to know what Jordan was having. I would like to know Bronx and his mate find common ground. I want Blayze and Ryland's story.

This is a good book. It is full of information...but all of which might be tainted. I would assume that all of what Lindeberg is writing about is about people who were studied while in glycolysis, since that is the world we know. How foods and other things we ingest affect our bodies must be different when we live in a state of ketosis, which is the state of metabolism we evolved to be in. Lindeberg also glances over cereal lectins, which I believe are the bane of humanity (as well as grain fed stock animals - can you imagine a world without grain fed animals? The green footprint for grass fed would be so much smaller!!!!). Without grains most of the planet would be better off as far as diet is concerned. Anyway, this is a nice read and does go into detail about the dangers of sugars, and that in itself is worth a lot.

At 76 years of age I read this book with a lot of past history. Dr. Lindeberg convinced me that I was eating way too much cheese. That perhaps I should be eating none at all. Secondly, that my eating of whole wheat crackers and bread along with the dairy products might well be a good part of the reasons I had high blood pressure, was over weight, and was prediabetic. Now, can I at this ripe old age change my eating habits? Time will tell but he has convinced me to try and I have added more fruit to my diet and am lowering the amount of whole wheat.Dr. Lindeberg does not set out to convince you of the above and he appears not to in anyway gain by your conversion. He is rather just a 'dumb' scientist pointing out with 2034 references why the average Western man's diet leads the Western man to the diseases mentioned above. And I in the above have just simplified what he writes in pointing out those things that apply most to me of his well thought out expose.He has arrived at his learned hypothsis by comparing the diet and diseases of primitive cultures that have diets more in keeping with man's evolutionary past, with the diets and diseases of Western man. He then has shown the scientific background for the conclusions he has drawn. There are only 230 pages of writing, plus glossary and references. It is in a dry but very readable (well with some checking on the meaning of words) text that should be on anyones book list that wants to better understand the effects of diet on the human body. It is a must, in my opinion for anyone in the medical or nutrition professions. Forget all those diet books; read this book first and then figure out where you need to go next. This book in time should become a classic

I also have a personal library with more than 200 books, whose subjects are in one or other way, related with the one in this book (say anthropology, evolution, primatology, nutrition and medicine). I can only say that this one is a really informative book, truly worked, plenty of wisdom and real science, that is, written with a sceptical point of view and with an interest in trying not to be biased at all. It's insightful and thoughtful. I highly recommend its reading if you're one who believe in evolution as the real tool for understanding nutrition. Nutrition is just an inseparable part from the ecosystem, and humans are not different from other animals. If nutrition in zoos is seen as a scientific issue, how is that human nutrition is seen as a political, social and economic arrangement? Once one read this book his/her live changes forever, because one cannot simply think of those colourful card box full of grain and dairy derived stuff as food. One starts looking at those edibles very different from food, from human food and its real meaning.I reiterate my recommendation of reading this profound research. It doesn't mind you're a medical doctor or practitioner, an anthropologist or a mere human being who seeks light in the messed nutrition world, this is one of the few fresh books which deserves a read. Good format for quick reference. And as close as I have come (after reading a lot on the subject) to an author being objective, which in my opinion is this book's greatest value.

OMG this was such a great read!! The story starts with Graham Walker-Pleasure is being held hostage by some crazed woman. And while he is held we learn Graham Walker's past. How as a young man that came from a good family loving mother and father that was just trying to find himself. Wouldn't go to school and stayed in constant trouble. Graham eventually became a sex addict whom learned this behavior from his father Tylar whom constantly sexed all different types of women all the time no same in his game. Its discovered that Graham was molested by an older boy at his mother's church and which effected his life. This also had him question his sexuality and played a part in him sexing women. Hanging with the wrong type of women got him hooked on drugs but he pulled through it. Once he pulled through it he met his best friend Quinn. They discussed everything and hung out together. During this time Graham became Pleasure the stripper and learned his craft, skill and earned big money and a helluva reputation. He never really knew what love was and every time he thought he did it came with a price. But what really blew me was how it ended and it was discovered that the crazed woman holding him hostage was his used be friend Quinn which ended up being Lionel the child molester!! That negro had gotten a sex change and after all those years was attracted and so-called loved Pleasure!! Now that was a helluva twist to this story for sure!! This book would not allow me to put it down to the end. A totally great read and I would definitely highly recommend it.

I couldn't put it down!!! The crazy just kept calling me!!! I was up till 6am tryna find out who the crazy was!!! READ THIS ONE!!! The sex is off the chain too!!!

The author exhibits great skill in illuminating the most important aspects of analytic philosophy in such a succinct venue. 2) For those with limited exposure to philosophy, at the end of each chapter there are background snippets which explain in simple language some of the important and technical concepts necessary for a full understanding of the text. 3) The breath of the discussions is impressive. It's all here---the logicism of the earliest period of analytic philosophy, insightful discussions of the founders (Frege, Russell, Moore, and Wittgenstein), the Vienna Circle and Logical Positivism, and the post WWII linguistic turn. Crucial later thinkers are also given their due (Quine, Kuhn, Putnam, Rorty). 4) More recent topics are also addressed. Philosophy of mind and philosophy of language, modal logic, ethics and metaethics, just to name a few. Here I may add some of the other giants of philosophy brilliantly analyzed---Lewis, Davidson, Grice, and Kripke.After digesting this wonderful book, you may want to climb the ladder of knowledge further. For those interested in Wittgenstein my highest recommendation goes to P.M.S. Hacker, Wittgenstein's Place in Twentieth Century Analytic Philosophy. And the definitive anthology in the field, huge, comprehensive, and sophisticated, is The Oxford Handbook of the History of Analytic Philosophy, edited by Michael Beaney.

It's a great summary of the history of contemporary philosophy. I certainly appreciated a succinct description of some of the most key philosophers and their ideas, as well as some of the initial movements that led to logical positivism, metaphysics, and the contemporary concepts of language. This author is one of a kind. I have enjoyed all three of her books and this one was no exception. The fact that I live in East Texas makes the setting personal. My family has similar stories of people just as bad and just as good as these characters. As always, I was riveted and never expected it to end like it did. Mrs. Perez knows how to make the characters come to life and knows how to keep you invested in the story. She always shocks and surprises you. She deserves the award she won for this book and deserves more recognition than she is getting.

This was a raw and graphic novel, filled with as much abuse and hatred as there was love and hope. It was beautifully written, with lyrical descritpions, and the characters were fleshed out and realistic. There was sexual content, both consensual and forced, though not described in gratuitous detail. There was also an abundance of racial slurs and violence, again central to the story. Overall, very well-written and heartbreakingly realistic. I would not recommend this to younger teens.

I'm still raw from reading this book. A young Mexican girl who lost her mother due to childbirth is sent with her brother and sister (twins) from her grandparents' home to East Texas to live with her stepfather (the Twins' father). He is not a great guy to Naomi, but the twins like him. The siblings all meet Wash, an African American who is awesome and caring, and they all make a strange, happy family. But this is the 1930's, and the relationship is not accepted. At all. And then bad happens.The story is set around the New London elementary school explosion, which I knew nothing about. But apparently it is the deadliest school disaster in America. And it was gruesome. This is not a light read, and there are some very adult situations, but it is a book that exposes more of the country's racial cruelty to anyone who is not white. This book definitely goes in the We Need Diverse Books shelf.

An amazing book. Stories and characters and timelines weaved together so perfectly that I couldn't put it down and finished the whole thing in a few hours, needing to know so badly how it ended. I recommend this book to everyone now. It left me in tears at the end but should be a required read for anyone who wants to understand more about racism in the south and also loves fully developed characters that make you miss them at the end of the book. So wonderful.

However, the incredible tenderness of the protagonists also gives you hope that somehow some goodness can be salvaged. The tragedy of this story is of Shakespearean proportion. Honestly. There is potent violence and racism depicted here, along with sexuality, but an extraordinary read for mature teen readers and adults.

An utterly beautiful, haunting book. Viscerally real characters and a rich, detailed setting . The story is an unflinching look at a tragedy wrought by racism and misogyny, and yet it still shows how love can provide light and meaning in the very darkest of times. This is one that will stay with you long after you've read the last page.

This was brutal in so many ways. Well done, but definitely not an easy book to read or recover from.The New London school explosion is a key event in the book, but that's not really what it's about.I liked the structure of shifting among the different characters in short sections. Sometimes the pacing was a little odd, but it worked overall.

I figured I'd be settling in with this thick book for at least a week, but I blazed through it in three days. Perez keeps the story moving with short chapters told in alternating points of view and mounting tension. OUT OF DARKNESS is a beautiful novel about ugly things - rascism, sexual abuse, and the aftermath of a horrible explosion, a real life historical event which I'd known nothing about. It's also hopeful and redemptive.
