Within the first chapter, it appeared that Maxwell’s approach fit these requirements. The rest of the book followed suit without disappointment. In his book, Maxwell (2002) discusses the importance of developing leadership skills and how those skills can impact the many facets of one’s life. While each of us may begin and end at different points on the leadership development scale, he believes we each possess the ability to improve our leadership skills. Maxwell discusses the various traits of an effective leader and how this can influence one’s work and life. Maxwell provides a clear approach to building leadership skills. He stresses the importance of these skills in work and everyday life. His suggestions are concise, yet inclusive enough to provide enriching ideas for even the seasoned leader. Maxwell has a clear writing style that allows the busy professional to put the book down and pick it up without losing direction.

I own several John C. Maxwell audio Cd's, if I did not own any of his other Cd's this would have been beneficial, but since I do own some of his Cd's this seemed to be a collaboration of information from his others works and was nothing that I had not already heard before.

This is a review of the audiobook. The 2 CD set is a relatively easy and interesting listen, with solid principles and anecdotes that bring leadership to light and life. The author, a long serving pastor, brings both a humanity and a social perspective to bear that is sometimes absent in those books written by or recorded by the typical Fortune 500 executive. His focus on the principles of influence, integrity, attitude, vision, problem solving and discipline transcend corporate leadership to leadership generally. While general and "feel good" in approach, the audiobook contains some actionable elements, and at the price point is tough to beat.

Basic rehash of ideas that come out from "leadership" gurus without an actionable game plan. For someone who is lecturing on leadership this book did not really demonstrate that quality.

After reading Maxwell's Success 101 and Attitude 101, Leadership 101 offered final advice on how to grow into a good leader. Maxwell offers his advice in an upbeat, friendly way, and he is sure to offer anecdotes for encouragement along the way. I hold a leadership position at work right now; I am the head intern. I am in charge of a group of four interns who turn to me for advice, both personal and professional, but I wondered why my leadership skills went unnoticed by them. I found that Part 2 of the book, The Traits of a Leader, was the most beneficial section for me. It helped me recognize the leadership qualities I was lacking. In this section, I benefitted from the advice on how to prioritize my life, and how to develop trust in my work relationships. It turns out that the reason many of my interns did not follow me as their leader is because I was not prioritizing their duties and I did not trust them to do a good enough job. Once I applied these concepts to my job, I saw a significant change in the way my interns were reacting to me. While I do not expect to use all of Maxwell's ideas, he breaks them down into ideas that can be personally conceived. I found myself applying his ideas and suggestions to my life, and in a self-help book, there is nothing better than being able to apply the guidelines to my own life. Throughout all three of Maxwell's books that I read, I did not feel patronized or like I was being talked down to. I was able to understand what he wanted me to do because he used plenty of personal examples. If you are interested in ways to apply leadership in your career or your life, this book will give you good insight into how that should be done.

Time and again afetr practicing for 25 years I go back to this book for reference. The new edition is again a wonderful and comprehensive textbook that every dentist and dental student should have in their library. Dr. Malamed has not left anything unexplained clearly in the science of local anesthesia. Most of all the accompanying DVD ia a fantastic reference that will refine any clinician's skills.

When the school told me the book my dentist had given me was way too outdated for the course, I had to move fast and get something newer. I got in in just a few days. What a disappointment when I received this and looked through it! This might be entitled "Western South Dakota and A Few Points East." I grew up in eastern South Dakota and bought this book as a gift for my brother. The photography is beautiful, but most of it is of western South Dakota, especially the Badlands and the prairie grasses. There's not a single photo anywhere close to our hometown in the southeast part of the state. The photography is great, but it would be nice to have more of eastern South Dakota and more photos of the towns, not just the rural areas. If you are looking for photography of the Black Hills area, Badlands, and prairies, then this book is great. If you are looking for photos of the farms and towns of the eastern part of the state, this is not the book for you.

The more ignorant denizens of both coasts of our great nations refer, dismissively, to large states like Nebraska or (especially) South Dakota as "flyover states," suggesting that there can be nothing there for anyone blessed enough to live in Los Angeles or Upper Saddle River, or even Queens. They are of course wrong. As the book title suggests, much of South Dakota is 'simply beautiful.' From personal experience I cite just two examples (many more can be found in this handsome book of photographs): Pierre (pronounced 'peer' in South Dakota) is the capitol; the building and those surrounding it are very attractive, compared say to the Victorian monstrosity in Albany. And speaking of Pierre, if one is heading west on I-90, especially if planning to spend the night around Pierre [it's a long way west to the next town of any size--South Dakota is a wide state], hop off I-90 around Fort Thompson and head up to the two lane along the Missouri River. I can almost promise you no traffic jams, and that road is about as pretty as any you'll find unless you love Golden Arches and T-shirt shops every hundred yards. Several times around Fort Thompson I've seen herds of buffalo; if you wonder what they look like, check this book. I recommend it, especially for dimwits who pooh-pooh the heart of our country as fit only to 'fly over.'

I purchased this as a gift for my elderly father, a South Dakota native who is no longer able to focus on the written word. The beauty of the state he has always referred to as "back home" comes to life for him each time opens the book--old memories come alive to him and I am hearing stories I've never before heard. This book exceeded all expectations.

This is a wonderful South Dakota photography book. I've lived here my whole life, and it's just what I wanted. I was looking for something that was all photos and not much text--this is it. This is great for a coffee table book. My only complaint is that it's missing photos of Bear Butte and Crazy Horse.

As the title suggests - this book and the wonderful State it portrays is "simply beautiful"! Lovely pictures, nice to handle format (hard cover). A great gift - for someone else, or for yourself. I would definately purchase it again.

as a practicing veterinarian you eventually learn all of your education's shortcomings(though it is still a great education). i am completely shocked that no one ever recommended this text for anatomy. i have been out of school for 20 yrs. and just recently purchased this book. it is hands down the best anatomy book there is. can't believe it ever went out of print. shame on the publisher/author. freshman yr and beyond would have been much, much easier with this text in hand. a must for any practitioner, and any lucky freshmen who can afford or find a copy.

JoAnne Pedro-Carroll, is a clinical psychologist, researcher, consultant, and therapist. For twenty-five years, she was a senior researcher at the University of Rochester’s Children’s Institute and a member of the psychology and clinical psychiatry faculties. Dr. Pedro-Carroll founded and directed the Children of Divorce Intervention Program, and her work has earned numerous awards. Dr. Pedro-Carroll is an adviser to the Sesame Street Resilience Project’s Little Children, Big Challenges: Divorce and Separation. I haven't been able to read much as I get sensitive every time I open the book but from what I have read so far I think it's a great book. It reminds you that your kids emotional being is what's important in the event of divorce and custody issues. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and my ex husband and I had a terrible divorce and we still go to court for custody/visitation issues. Having a book like this helps to not get wrapped up in anger and bitterness. After reading parts of this book I am able to say good things about my ex husband to my daughter because no matter what our issues are, he is still her dad and I am her mom and she doesn't want/need to hear bad things about her parents. I am very thankful I purchased this.

I'm a clinical psychologist who reads a lot of parenting books because I specialize in working with kids and families. Here's my review that I first posted on my blog:Intended Audience: This book is intended for parents who are going through a divorce where children are involved. Much of this book talks about the initial steps to getting divorced, such as telling your children, and making custody decisions, so it will be most helpful for parents who are just beginning the divorce process. However, some of the information would be helpful even well after the divorce is over, such as the chapters on emotionally intelligent parenting and remarriage.Author: Dr. Pedro-Carroll is a clinical psychologist who is recognized internationally as an authority in the field of children and divorce. She can make that claim because, among other accolades, she is an advisor to Sesame Street on the topic of divorce. Her website is pretty good, so if you’re interested in learning more about her and her work, check it out here.Summary: This book has nine chapters that are roughly chronological when going through the process of divorce. The first few chapters talk about how children think and feel about divorce, and the potential impact it can have on them over time. The next few chapters are more pragmatic, discussing how to tell your children about the divorce and how to create a parenting plan and make decisions regarding your children during the divorce. It then moves into how to take care of yourself and your children during your divorce. This includes ways to control conflict with your ex-partner, helping your children build resiliency, and ways to have a healthier relationship with your children during and after a divorce. Finally, the last part discusses how to handle new relationships around your kids, and examples showing it is possible to have a “successful” divorce.Helpfulness: This book is so helpful! My favorite thing about it was that it gives really useful sample wording for how to talk to your kids about certain subjects related to divorce. Of course you’re not going to memorize the paragraphs, but sometimes having sample words and phrases can be really helpful when you’re struggling with what to say. Even better, these samples are broken down by age, so there are different suggestions for several age groups. There are also a lot of ideas, suggestions, and activities that can easily be implemented by parents. Overall, I think this is a really helpful book.Readability: This is just like reading a “regular” book, it’s not clinical or dry at all. The author uses a lot of stories and examples to keep the reader engaged. I had no trouble reading through this in a few days.Critiques: If I were creating my ideal book about parenting and divorce, I think I would include a few more chapters about parenting after the divorce is over and the dust has settled. It’s included in here, but not as extensively as it could have been.Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The book is amazing it help you to put yourself in your kids shoes, and teaches is on how to prepare and what to expect. this book will open your eye to info that you are not aware of; however the beginning of this book could be very overwhelming so you will just have to be strong and get over the emotional part.

This book touches on the emotional impact of divorce from each family members perspective which helps the healing process through understanding. It also offers real examples and good age appropriate communication tools for to share with your kids. And finally, there is te hope of moving forward in a healthy way including future relationships. Great book.

I haven't finished reading this book yet, but I have already gotten some value out of this book and would recommend it to others with children who are going through divorce. It's a bit long. And I don't think it's the only book to read. But if you're looking for answers about how to help your kids through all of the horrible changes that the destruction of their world will bring, you should include this book in your search for help. I am glad I did.

As a parent who's primary concern is my young son, this book has been extremely helpful. It's broken out into age segments so you can get an idea of what to expect now, as well as what your child may feel and experience as they grow older. After reading several chapters, I ordered one for my future ex so he could understand how important it is to put our differences aside and make the transition as easy as possible for our son. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is going through a separation or divorce.

It gives you straightfoward advice. It is easy to look up advice for your specific situation.It gave me clarity when my husband left. I hadn't thought to tell my 15 month old "Daddy is going to live at a different house, but we are going to stay here and we both love you." I told him we both love him, but I didn't think to tell him about the living situation changing because he was so young. This book gave me concrete, easy to follow advice that was easy to reference. It has specific advice for each age range.
