At times interesting and hilarious, McCallum both tells the stories of these colorful personalities and probes the psyches of the 1991-92 Celtics.The big three uses up most of the ink, but there are also the stories of rookies Dee Brown and Brian Shaw, and many of the reserves, as well. The Celtics go through the majority of the season looking like contenders for the Championship, but ultimately must rely on the aging Big Three to push them over the top. Unfortunately, their bodies don't cooperate.And yet, one can see the nuances of the personalities of these NBA superstars and appreciate Bird and McHale's leadership, and very different humor. In "Unfinished Business," Jack McCallum tracked the Celtics' attempt to rebound in 1990-91, from the draft and the hiring of Dave Gavitt in the summer through the playoffs the next spring.McCallum recalls how new coach Chris Ford retooled the team, injecting an element of speed and a running game with younger players like Dee Brown, Brian Shaw, Reggie Lewis, and Kevin Gamble. The author shows how the team jelled on the court and relates some of the off-the-court stories of that season, and notes that the team had a fresher, hipper image as a result of adding the younger players, culminating in Brown's memorable win in the Slam Dunk Contest that year.For the Celtics, the season was one of change off the court as well as on--McCallum discusses the retirement of radio announcer Johnny Most and the advent of halftime promotions at Boston Garden.The author marches through the regular season month by month, noting that the changes made to the team worked spectacularly early on--the Celtics jumped out to a 29-5 start and were seen as possible championship contenders. I hated the Celtics growing up, hated Bird, hated Mchale, hated all of them. I loved watching the high flyers play like Ron Harper and Dominique Wilkins, Jordan and Drexler. The Celtics were boooooring!! As I got older I came to rspect and appreciate Bird and Mchale for how they played. When I saw this book I was intrigued to hear some behind the scenes stories. Honestly, if you loved Bird as a kid you probably wont after you read this because the book pretty much tells the story of a great player who was ornery as hell, played dirty and never showed the fans much gratitude. For me though, I never liked him so the stories in this book didnt not change my feelings for him, but what it did do was make me respect his game and what he meant to the NBA. So even if you hated the Celtics growing up or hate them now, but you love basketball of the 80's and 90's you should not miss this one.

I've previously read 07 Seconds or Less and like that book, author Jack Mc Callum hits this one right out of the park. Celtics fans or any basketball fan will thoroughly enjoy this book as it chronicles a year in the life of the famed Boston Celtics. It gives an insider's look at what was being said behind the scenes which most fans will not know learn from simply watching the games then or reading the sports pages of a newspaper.Celtic Pride in action was highlighted by Larry Bird's famous comeback from injury suffered during the most crucial of times, the playoffs. With Bird leading them, the Celtics were able to finish off the upstart Chuck Person and his Indiana Pacers.The book allows us to have a closer look into the lives of the players both on and off the court and learn things not known by those outside the team. truly a gem of a book for Celtics fans and anyone who follows the game of basketball.

Good insights into one of the less memorable Celtics' seasons. Since this was 25 seasons ago, I had forgot how good the team was in the first half. Author did a nice job on the players' personalities. You may find it a bit dull if you're not a big Celtics fan like me.

This book is not intended to be a definitive history of Area 51. What it is is the best collection of pictures taken at the Groom Lake Base. About half the book is dedicated early operations and the U2 program. The next third concerns the various Lockheed blackbird models, and the remainder is everything else. You won't find anything UFO related here. The pictures are well-annotated. Nobody knows this stuff better than Peter Merlin. He has been a dedicated aviation historian for more than two decades. There are plenty of pictures of Soviet planes that were evaluated at Groom. Until this book, I had never seen pictures of a stealth cruise missile called Senior Prom which was a contemporary of the F-117's predecessor, Have Blue. There are pictures taken inside two bars at the base, Sam's Place and the Conehead Bar. You don't need to worry about current military technology being compromised by this book. The only aircraft picture that dates since 1990 is of the Boeing 737-600 "Janet" aircraft, but that picture was taken at their terminal in Las Vegas. This fairly small book is a must-have for the wonk, and it would be an interesting read for any aviation enthusiast.Rumor has it that Peter Merlin is planning a more comprehensive Dreamland/Area 51/Groom Lake book. I'm looking forward to it.

I don't see how anyone could not have this if your interested in Jet aircraft of the USAF

Once again, Peter Merlin shows us he is the "authority" on matters regarding Area 51. Many of these photos are unique, being full size versions already seen in other aviation histories.

Awesome history in photos you just don't see anywhere else even scouring the internet.

As a book gift, this is nice. It's high quality, great photos and isn't flashy like most books about this subject. However, there's nothing in here that's new nor is it interestingly told in a way that makes me recommend this book as a "must have".

I love these great tales of engineers facing problems and coming up with complex, multi-faceted, yet elegant solutions. The pictures, though, are what make this a great book and a good buy. This book is packed with imagery that the aviation fan will pore over for hours. Learn the stories of these fantastic marvels of aeronautical engineering that were designed and tested by moonlight, and see for yourself what it looks like to build an aviation legacy!

This is not a kindle version - this is a misrepresentation. The original has illustrations. This one does not. This version without illustrations is a travesty. And that's without commenting on the inappropriate capitalisation of scientific names.Shame on the publishers for calling this a "kindle version" and SHAME on Amazon for selling it.I will not buy anything from the publishers again until they have withdrawn this and replaced it with a true kindle version - or included a statement making it clear that the kindle "version" is a sad, pale, inaccurate reflection of the dead tree version.And Amazon - lift your game. Don't encourage this sort of shoddy work. It reflects very, very badly on the credibility of the kindle.

FYI, the Kindle edition does not come with illustrations - very disappointing. It is unclear since they do indicate the illustrator's name, but the fact is no illustrations come with the Kindle Edition. Personally I think this was a very bad customer experience.

Me and my son are both very interested in spiders, especially my son, and this book was wonderful. Well written and so informative. It was very educational, but interesting and kept oyur attention at the same time. Would definitely recommend this book!
