About the Author

Multiple award-winning author Jon Scieszka grew up in Flint, Michigan, the second oldest and the nicest of six boys. Jon went to school at Culver Military Academy in Indiana where he was a Lieutenant; Albion College in Michigan where he studied to be a doctor; and Columbia University in New York, where he received an M.F.A. in fiction. He taught elementary school in New York for ten years in a variety of positions. He is the author of many books for children including the New York Times Best Illustrated Book The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales (illustrated by Lane Smith), the Caldecott Honor book The True Story of the Three Little Pigs (illustrated by Lane Smith), and Math Curse (illustrated by Lane Smith).  In addition to his work as an author, Jon also runs a web-based literacy program called “Guys Read” that is designed to encourage boys, particularly reluctant readers, to get involved with books. In 2008, Jon was named the country’s first National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, a joint effort of the Library of Congress and the Children’s Book Council. During his two-year role as Ambassador, he acted as a spokesperson for children’s literature, speaking to groups of parents, teachers, and children to encourage the importance of reading. This is a memoir that I enjoyed more than I expected. Being a member of the author's generation, I could relate to some of the cultural references of his early childhood. Comic book titles that I loved to read back then and some TV programs that I watched were part of his early childhood. I couldn't help but laughing at many of his small anecdotes. One of my favorites is when he decides to order plastic soldiers that were often advertised in old DC comic books and his disappointment at the size of these soldiers. I thought it was funny because I always wanted to order these but never did. I bought this book because I thought it would have been useful to the classroom when discussing memoirs. Although it is not as popular as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a fictional text, undoubtedly it has some space in a 4th to 6th grade classroom as long as you know how to adapt it.

My son got this from the Easter Bunny and whenever he reads it, I can hear him laughing. It's a great book about growing up in a house full of kids. It's nostalgic, but not preachy. I read it, too, and have no regrets. You can't beat it for a seven-year-old!

Pee swords, fried urine, and cat yak.....what more could a 7 year old kid want in a book? This is such a sweet and funny collection of stories about the author's experience growing up in a family of 6 brothers. Each story is only 2-3 pages long, which is perfect for kids, and most of them are about everyday things like chores and haircuts and summer time and Cub Scouts. Its funny, and endearing. I enjoyed it as much as the kids. We wished it were longer.

I think I would stick to 4th to 5th grade boys. As you can imagine with 6 brothers their is some potty humor. It would have appalled my prom and proper 10 year old self but, after living with my "pull my finger" husband I have loosened up and enjoyed the book to read with my tomboy and a group of boys.

These were great stories about the six Scieszka brothers' adventures, while they were growing up. I couldn't read them without laughing, and I felt a sense of nostalgia as I remembered my own childhood. My whole family enjoyed the book.

Hilarious! I plan to read this book to my 4th and 5th grade students. It's about time books get published that speak to a boy's heart.

Although Evans originally wanted to be a writer, he had photos printed in small magazines and in some galleries while still in his 20s. Nau recounts his friendships with Hart Crane and James Agee, among others, which led to other assignments. Eventually, Evans went to work for Fortune magazine where he spent 20 years. The America that he documented was often that of ordinary people and disappearing architecture. Rich in details and unstaged, his works offer candid glimpses of our society, from Coney Island in the 1920s to Southern tenant farmers in the 1930s, and, later, to small towns and signs in the '70s. Excellent examples of the various periods appear throughout. Nau's brisk, expository treatment lacks the copious anecdotes about personal struggles and technical achievements that enliven the best artists' biographies. A Dog's Journey is the sequel of A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron. This book is truly amazing ,and I loved every page and chapter. The story starts with Buddy a good dog, an old dog from A Dog's Purpose. Buddy thought his purpose in life was completed by loving and caring for Ethan. Ethan was his human in A Dog's Purpose but he died. Buddy soon realized he was able to love and care for more than one human when he meets Clarity June (C.J.) Ethan's granddaughter. C. J. was left unattended by her mother, Gloria, a miserable, selfish person and gets into a lot of trouble. Buddy sees her needing help and knows Ethan would want him to watch over her. Buddy is reborn several times throughout the book and comes back as male/female dogs meeting many people and having many purposes. His main journey back each time is to locate C. J. because he feels she really needs him. This book reflects many thoughts through a dog's mind, and is a wonderful book for ALL dog lovers, non-dog lovers, and ALL HUMANS. This book left me smiling, laughing, and shedding many tears, but when I was done I had the true feeling of how a dog, or any pet may feel. They love humans unconditionally, and are sincerely loyal wonderful "fur babies."

My kids wanted this book after reading A Dog's Purpose. I like to read some of the books that my kids read to make sure that the content of the book isn't too advanced for them. I read this after reading A Dog's Purpose and it was good. I read a lot of books - everything from mysteries to love stories to action adventures. I love that the book is from the point of view of the dog. I enjoyed that this book made me laugh at times and made me cry at other times. A good book will get you into the story and make you feel as though you are there - this book does that. I would recommend this book to almost any age. My daughters are 10 and 12 and have read both this book and A Dog's Purpose.

Great, great story that made me went "aaawwwww" in so many places throughout the book. This sequel is just as good, or even better than the first installment.Our dog started out as Buddy, the dog that he was at the end of A Dog's Purpose. Just as it is easy to fall in love with dogs in real life, so it was too with Buddy (and Molly, and Max, and Toby) in this book. I love the way our dog thinks (?) - however it is, the resulting actions are consistent: play; protect his/her person; or get a treat or food. The story runs for as long as a person's lifetime, so imagine how long it was for our dear dog.One thing I'm certain I'm going to do after I post this review: read the two books again!

Read this a few days after finishing A Dog's Purpose, which I really, really loved! After that I needed a little more. I want to say I enjoyed A Dog's Purpose more than this one because it's like the first time you go to a particular restaurant or make a new recipe and it turns out great! Yet the next time you make that same recipe again it's kinda meh, doesn't seem all that special after the first time. I guess it was like that. I dunno. This is, just like ADP, a great book for dog lovers and even others. I so enjoyed hearing the stories in both books from a dog's perspective. It was heartwarming, funny, and sad at times. Good read and I would definitely recommend this, but do read A Dog's Purpose first as this is the sequel to ADP. I plan to read more of Bruce Cameron's books, but right now reading some from people's perspectives. :)

Having read "A Dog's Purpose," I purchased "A Dog's Journey." Unfortunately, I made the mistake of taking the book with to read while I had to spend time in the Toyota car Dealership waiting area while my car has having work done. It is difficult to have to keep turning one's face away so that the other people waiting don't see the tears streaming down your face while you are reading. The story is so poignant at times and filled with so much love. I heartily recommend both of these books to anyone who loves dogs. My usual choice of reading genre is thrillers. These books do not have the suspense and intrigue of thrillers. But the story-line, the character development and the love expressed were just as engrossing and made more of an imprint.

The story begins with Buddy, Ethan’s elderly dog, who believes his purpose is to care for Ethan’s granddaughter, CJ. The story advances through Buddy’s rebirths as he or she searches for CJ, determined to protect her.Cameron also suggests the hope that, after all is said and done, people will reunite with beloved pets once again.

This is once again a wonderful novel written by Bruce Cameron. I have read the previous novel and loved it so much that ordering the next chapter was a must. Everything about this book is a gem. The story line is easy to get lost in and become part of the story itself. It is almost as if you are part of the story, either experiencing the moments you read first hand as the pup, or as someone very close by watching everything unfold. Every dog lover should read this book and the previous one before it. Well written. Hard to not cry at least once between start and finish. The characters stay in your mind and it's so hard to put the book down once you start reading.

I don't think I have ever gotten a Kindle First Read and read it before the month was up, let alone the week. I normally don't go for romances. I normally shy away from international writers, but at the time I was browsing, this book 1) sounded promising and 2) had no reviews. I truly did not want to put this book down. As soon as I did put it down I had to rush to my computer to enter a review. I read it in 3 nights, and would have been less if I didn't have to be up early for work. This was a sweet story. It really had me feeling with and rooting for the characters. It is hard to do a review without spoilers, I will just say that the book is really not as predictable as you would think in this story. I just HAD to know how it ended. Over all, I say if the description appeals to you, pick up this book It was a great read, with developed characters and a sweet story.

Kugy is a self defined weirdo who, frankly, thinks and acts like a child pretending to be an adult. Keenan is a painter whose parents think his art is a childish habit he hasn't outgrown. Their "love at first sight" situation might be plausible if every single unattached character of the opposite gender didn't also fall in love with them at sight for the entire book, which is the ongoing excuse K and K use for not sharing their feelings about each other. 90% of the plot is Kugy and Keenan taking turns avoiding each other, because the other one is dating someone that magically fell in love with them at first sight. I had a hard time trying to remember that Kugy was supposed to be a grown woman in hear early 20s and not a 12 year old who still hasn't outgrown traits from her single digit years. Which is honestly how she comes across, since the girl isn't even mature enough to comprehend the funny feelings she sometimes has around men. Keenan is a one dimensional stereotype of a teenager who wanted to go to art school but his parents said no, and he really doesn't have a personality beyond his angst at his parents.For a book that is entirely about relationship drama between young adults, the relationships are just plain badly written and the ages of the characters aren't believable compared to their blatant lack of maturity. It becomes especially painful to read toward the end of the book where it gets to a point that all the characters are sloppily in love with each other and crying all over the place. Think Romeo and Juliet meets The Gift of the Magi. By the end of the book, I no longer found any of the characters sympathetic.I really wouldn't recommend this unless you think it's worth wading through a mediocre book about implausible relationship drama just to pick up a few striking passages of prose. I'm not sure why I ever expect free kindle books to be good, but this did not meet expectations.

Maybe something was lost in the translation, but I just couldn't get into this book at all. The characters are flat and two-dimensional. Its difficult to cheer on the central character when she comes off seeming so unlikable and self-centered. The writing was bland. The characters were "geniuses" only because the author told us so and not because the characters convince us... Life is too short for bad books.

Perhaps because a part of me still believes in fairytales and happily ever after I'm biased, but this book hurts in all the right ways and causes one to really think about what it means to love and the choices we make in its name. What threads are you holding on to?

I was surprised to find that is this a light hearted and fun book.There were elements in this story that I generally don't enjoy but that I didn't mind here because they were well written. Keenan and Kugy are attracted to each other but there are always obstacles in the way of their relationship. Kugy has a boyfriend from home. Kugy's friend sets up Keenan with her glamorous cousin who can help him get his paintings shown in a gallery. There are misunderstandings because people aren't communicating with each other. I was even okay with that for a while although it usually has me pulling my hair out in frustration.I liked the writing of the secondary characters as well. They are complete characters with their own story arcs who don't exist just to serve the needs of the main characters. In fact, it sometimes seems like they are just stopping in this story occasionally when it intersects with their real storylines unlike some books where it seems secondary characters hibernate whenever the main characters aren't around.Eventually though the repeated missed opportunities and bungled communication between the main characters started to wear down my enthusiasm. Eventually someone just has to say what they are thinking. I wish the story had ended a bit sooner with less "maybe I'll say what I'm feeling or maybe I'll just wait until next time" on repeat.There was also a lot of black and white thinking here. Either you can live a creative life or you can have a corporate job. You can't do both.This would be a good book for fans of New Adult fiction. Overall, I liked it and thought it was well written even if it overstayed its welcome for just a little bit.

In The Colder Case Series, Uncivil Twilight is the 1925 case about the trial of S.C. Stone for the murders of the Martin sisters. Colder Case is the 1937 case and the trial of Albert Dyer for the murders of Melba and Madeline Everett and their friend Jeanette Stephens. Snake Avenue is a similar 1931 case about the murder of Virgina Brooks in San Diego, which is still unsolved. In the Court of Deadly Assumptions is about another 1937 case, the trial of Samuel Elmore for the murder of Joan Kuleba. There was no intention of writing more than Colder Case, but research revealed too many similar murders of children and they had to be followed. None of these are light, entertaining reading. They are real cases with gruesome facts as reported in the news and official records. The testimony can be difficult at times and that made these cases more vulnerable to wrongful convictions because of the demand for swift punishment.

The author gives compelling evidence that the murderer or murderers got away with murder and an innocent man was hanged.

this is not one of the best books. it has interesting points but is too back and forth on sudjects about too many people and suspects
